new to tiny me need help bad!
Hi guys I hope someone can help. I got an old dell latitude laptop and decided to install tiny me 2008 on it. Installation to harddrive was a breeze! I was very impressed with how easy it was. The problem is I don't appear to have a complete desktop. I don't have any start menu or anything like that. All I got is an empty allocated space where it would normally be. I got the following icons on desktop: documents, config your puter, add remove programs, terminal, and install tiny me. At the bottom in the task bar I have a terminal, a folder, and a config your computer icon. I also got a john and fred box whatever thats all about.I can right click on the empty space to the left or right corners at bottom of screen and get a generic menu from that but it doesn't have much.
So heres my problem. I cannot find opera or any internet browser anywhere and it is driving me nuts. I have seen a desktop screenshot of tiny me on another website and it has a full menu under a start button but not mine. Where is the internet browser? Do I need to do an update and if so what command line do I use in a terminal cause I don't have an update manager like my ubuntu or mint laptops have. Please someone help me. I got to get this laptop going. |

RE: new to tiny me need help bad!
I'm not sure where you would have gotten TinyMe 2008 as support for it ended a long time ago. TinyMe isn't even active at the moment. TinyMe 2008 was based on PCLinuxOS. Certain PCLOS people made a bonehead move in 2009 to kick out their key developers, and I decided to go as well. I then based TinyMe on Unity Linux, but never got a stable release out. I left Unity in March because I couldn't get along with its leadership, and right now I'm just kicking back, relaxing, and trying to figure out what I want to do next. I'm considering Linux Mint and Fedora as bases for the next release of TinyMe, but I haven't solidified on anything yet.

Well anyways I got sick of trying and installed puppy and am pleased with it. I did a google search for tinyme downloads and found some on sourceforge.net. I am surprised if its not active there are still forums for it. I would think everything would be taken down. Kinda bizarre. |

Actually, I said "isn't active at the moment". That is, hiatus, not total shutdown.
