Issue booting TinyMe-Acorn-RC-2010.08.20.i586.iso on OLD laptop
I've been a way from Linux in general for quite a while and this is my first foray back into it.
I tried to boot the TinyMe Linux (TinyMe-Acorn-RC-2010.08.20.i586.iso) LiveCD in an IBM ThinkPad 760XL (133 Mhz Pentium MMX 89MB RAM 2.1GB HD, from before the year 2000). This computer does not natively support booting from CD (no USB ports either), so I downloaded and installed "Smart BootManager" (http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/). After starting my computer and selecting the CD ROM boot option in the Smart BootManager menu, the console displays: " ISOLINUX 3.84 2009-12-18 ETCD Copyright © 1994-2009 H. Peter Anvin et al gfxboot: Could not detect available memory size boot: " The ISOLINUX automatically retries to load after a 10 second timeout period and this message repeats several times. On the HD of this computer, I have an old Gentoo install (no GUI) that is still functioning. Can I somehow launch TinyMe from there? Or perhaps install TinyMe over it. I won't really mind replacing Gentoo with some other Linux, just as long as I'm assured that it will function at a level equal to what it is today (no-GUI). Any ideas? Is this computer too old for TinyMe? (Yes, is an acceptable answer.) UPDATE: I did a search for this issue and it appears that others have encountered with other distros aside from TinyMe. Original Post: http://lists.mandriva.com/cooker/2009-11/msg00065.php Fix: http://lists.mandriva.com/cooker/2009-11/msg00068.php I would like to attempt this solution, however when I try "Live", "Linux", "Live Linux" these options don't work. What is the name of the image? Is there a way to display a list of options from the "boot:" prompt? Thank you. Andrew |

Try 'livecd'.

It still couldn't find the kernel image. So, I also burned the ISO onto another CD at lower speed (4X), since that was suggested in a few other posts. This didn't have an effect either. UPDATE: I just tried some of the vmlinuz commands included in the following thread: http://tinymelinux.com/forum/thread-732.html This got me a little farther into the loading of the kernel. I see the single color bar at the bottom of the screen that turns into two shades of blue and one white that begin to advance to the right side of the screen to "Unity 2010", but in the end I was dropped into the shell. This is the error message: ----- Please wait: Loading driver for media adapter: Intel Corporation|82371FB PIIX ISA [Triton I] Please wait: Detecting USB device.
