RE: Chinese locale
Hi, wickytam. I am not too sure if I can fix the problem for you. I use fcitx for chinese input. To have chinese character displayed correctly and chinese input, try the following:

1. Install fcitx, fonts-ttf-chinese, fonts-ttf-chinese-opendesktop, fonts-ttf-droid, fonts-ttf-microhei, fonts-ttf-zenhei in Smart Package Manager. (I have installed as many fonts as I could so that chinese characters can be displayed correctly)

2. Edit /etc/sysconfig/i18n file as root and add the following lines at the end:
GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
QT_IM_MODULE=xim
XIM_PROGRAM=fcitx
XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx

3. Reboot and you should be ready to see Chinese character and input Chinese character.

I am ready if you have more question.

To change the entire system to Chinese, you can try to use 'draklocale'. Set the language and country and reboot. I haven't tried this before as I would prefer my system to be in English while able to see and input Chinese character.
