"Browse and Config Hardware" Not Working

New to TinyMe, but have used some other Linux distros (kanotix, sidux, Arch). Running from a CD to see if it is worth installing on an old HP Pavillion ze5607 laptop. Am having several hardware-related issues.

The first issue is that the "Browse and Config Hardware" item in the Unity Control Center does not work. When I click on the item the window first says it's loading, then it starts filling in with the hardware items with a "detection in progress" popup then it clears and goes back to the main UCC window. Turning on the "display logs" option shows the following in the log window:

Suggestions?

The other hardware issue is getting the USB sound card to work. I'll start a seperate thread for that one once I get this item fixed.

I don't see any error messages in what you posted.

The gtk error came up immediately. The sdb1 error only came up after the hardware dection failed. sdb1 is a FAT32 USB memory stick (and USB sound card). I tried to look at it via the disk partition tool but it complained that disk had overlapping partitions. Removing the USB stick fixed the problem with hardware detection. However I need to figure out how to fix the underlying problem with the USB drive as it is also my sound card. I'll see if I can examine the disk partitions on another system or with another disk tool. Worst case will be to reformat the disk.
