I broke the login screen
Yesterday just as the boot up finished on my computer, my father in law turned on his electric razor and blew the breaker. The laptop battery does not work, so computer went bye-bye. I held my breath as I rebooted and to my horror, the login screen didn't appear, just the console screen. I nervously typed in my user and pw. Okay, works so far. Now I typed "startx" at the prompt, the desktop environment came up. Now I'm feeling happier. The problem is that now the login screen doesn't come up at all, and I always have to type startx. Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks!

RE: I broke the login screen
When you get the graphical system going, open the Unity Control Center and go to System--> Manage System Services by enabling or disabling them--> make sure "dm" is checked.

Okay, I did check and "dm" was checked, but it's still broke. I then switched the login screen to GLM and that works. Since SLM is still broke, I'm not sure I would consider this solved, but I like GLM better so I'm happy.
