Issues with GRUB on 2010.08.20
Hi,

I had some major problems with the GRUB installation during an HD install this past weekend. After the complete install went through and a reboot, I was faced with GRUB freezing at the "loading grub" comment. After rebooting into the CD, I reinstalled GRUB with "grub-install --root-directory=/media/hd /dev/sda". Upon another reboot, I was successful in getting in on the HD installed system.

However, after the system was updated, I was faced with a different GRUB problem with an infinite "loading grub" loop. Again, I rebooted into the CD and repeated to reinstalled GRUB. I then commented out the graphic menu entry in the GRUB/menu.lst file and upon reboot it works again.

To simplify things, I installed LILO and then setup the system to boot using LILO.

Why would there be so many problems with GRUB?

It might it be the BIOS. Does it have some sort of virus-protection built in? Beyond that, I'm not really sure what could be the issue.
