2010cd wont boot on rather oldpc /IS IT BIOS?
OkConfused
Story goes as this:
I must say I'm not an expert !
I got a very old pc (actually I assembled it) 800MHz -256 MB (100) with dvd/cd
I'dlike to use that pc as a game machine for my kidsWink
I am a big fun of 2008 version - so I installed it in minutes!..and ....it flew!
Since I d'like to download some things from repository , I decided to "move" to 2010version...
AND it was then that I realised that 2010 cd DOES NOT run no matter which dvd/cdplayer (I tested with several) is used:as the cd tries to boot a little table appears on screen (probably coming from some bios)and everything stops!
Dodgy
The same problem goes with pclinux2009.4-lxde vs 2009.2KDE(which works!..and ,since I n e e d e d some updates , was what I finally installed!)
My question is Undecided
Is there a "new" method of creating the cd iso's adopted, that is not compatible with older bios'es??
If so, it is a pitty , especially for tinyme since itis supposed to be for us, the older ones Tounge
can I overcome the problem?
and , if not ,are there any 2008 repos from which one can download ?(eg locales games etc)??

If it is hanging during boot it is most likely searching for scsi devices. This has been a problem on alot of older pc's, my dell dimension 4100 included. Simply add noscsi at the grub screen ( pressing tab should give you a prompt ). If this doesn't work please let us know and we will try to find what the problem is.

Hmmm! I'm looking forward to getting to the pc (It's been "transfered"... ) to make the test
but ...I should make clear that both "newer" cd's(I mean isos on cds) stick on the VERY first grub screen :
I see the grub screen and at the same time ON the screen(upper left corner) opens a DOS-like table (with Dos-like frame/we the elders can remember these!!) that blocks everything
Anyway as soon as I get to the machine I'll post my news
many thanks!

Do you think you could take a picture of what it looks like when freezing and upload it to the forum as an attachment?

That's is definitely a new one. Haven't heard of a problem like that. Oh, and to get to the boot prompt it is F3, not tab, my bad. A pic would be helpful, I think.

RE: 2010cd wont boot on rather oldpc /IS IT BIOS?
PROBLEM SOLVED?- HMM NO just "diaseppeared"
I got to the pc with my camera ready to shoot
I made a new copy of the iso (of the SAME iso- that 'sbeen working nice elsewhere!!)
and..
OH now it does not freezes but it goes on and stops on "scanning SCSI...) as z3r0_k00l75 describes
so since the problem cant be confirmed...its not a problem scientifically ....(still I had the problem with all newer cds !!unfortunatelly I didnt have them with me!!) I 'll keep practicing next time I get to the pc thank you everybody!!!

RE: 2010cd wont boot on rather oldpc /IS IT BIOS?
Hey there, I'm having the same sort of problem (if you've seen my posts on the main Unity forum), tried TinyMe after Unity itself and SAMity failed to boot due to cmov issue. (a.k.a "cpu missing feature 0:15")

Here's what TinyMe "Acorn" does on my machine (Syntax-brand mobo, VIA Samuel 2 cpu, 533MHz)

ISOLINUX 3.86 won't even start. Get text prompt gfxboot:, then about a second later silently fails down to boot: prompt, after short delay tries gfxboot: again, back and forth a few times until machine gives up and reboots.

It's annoying, because while lacking the cmov instructions, and with cpu directly attached to mobo (not socketed!), the mobo was otherwise advanced for its time. It has ACPI, but bios is dated before the usual cutoff, so I always have to specify acpi=force in boot parameters, and its builtin video adapter was XGA+ (1152x864). Which few non-slackware distros seem to be able to reliably recognize.

I also like the micro-atx enclosure it's in and don't want to get rid of it, even though I have better machines.

Have you had the same ISOLINUX issue with other distros?
