Can't boot into KDE4?
Help please. I searched in your wiki but it doesn't cover installing KDE. I searched in your forum but evidently no one else has had any problem. I've also googled it, and haven't found anything.

I installed Tinyme 2010 Acorn RC 1b in Virtualbox 3.1.16, and then installed KDE including kdm. But I'm unable to start KDE; Slim's options are Openbox, Openbox-KDE, and Openbox-Gnome.

1) Placed an .xinitrc file in /home/dave with 'startkde' in it. Didn't work.

2) /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc has /etc/X11/Xsession $*. I looked at Xsession but I'm not good enough with bash to try and do anything there. None of the other likely-looking (to me) files in X11, xdm, Xinit, or xinit.d seemed to have anything about choosing a window manager.

3) Tried Openbox-kde. Got a horribly crippled KDE. In control center, set window manager to KDM. Rebooted, slim came up again.

4) Deleted, then reinstalled kdm hoping to get a menu to set the window manager. No menu, opened in slim.

5) Started slim with 'failsafe', got a desktop with a terminal in upper left. Entered 'startkde', and got a KDE desktop with a terminal stuck in the upper left that I can't move; if I delete the term the KDE desktop goes with it.

6) Booted back into Openbox, got a root terminal, and tried 'xwmconfig' - error message is "command not found".

7) Deleted slim. Kdm login appeared, chose KDE, booted until almost there - then totally black screen with conky spread across the whole width of the top. Can't boot now even into Openbox.

8) Now I've reinstalled Tinyme, re-updated it, and done kde-task in smart. KDE4 is all installed. On reboot, it opens in slim.

How do I make it open in kdm? Or is there a slim config somewhere that I can add an option for a straight KDE? Is there a Tinyme howto anywhere for installing/using KDE4? Any help will be appreciated.

In faith, Dave

I hit the wrong key and reposted. The system won't let me delete it.
