installing 2010 rc1
hi all,
im using a compaq presario sr1232om and trying to install the latest and greatest but having a problem with the install.
ive installed the 2010 beta2 and it works great except it keeps putting my monitor to sleep after 15 mins but i can put up with that.
the 2010 rc1 doesnt install. by that i mean i walk through the steps to install but im never asked to setup a user account. when i pull the cd and reboot i have to login as root because guest will not allow me to login. also the install icon is still on the desktop and i can not d/l anything using smart package installer.
ive tried all options offered during install with the same results.
ive d/l'ed from the 3 servers offered and ran the checksum for each, all is correct.
im sure its something im missing but ill be darned if i can figure it out;-)).
any help would be appreciated and thanks,
L

RE: installing 2010 rc1
I ran into the same problem in my install (in Virtualbox): When it finished installing, and told me to shutdown, it hadn't given me an opportunity to set a root password or start a new user/password. When I rebooted, I realized my root password was still 'root'.

I booted as root, got a terminal, and did 'passwd' and entered a root password. Then I did 'useradd' and added myself; then I did 'passwd dave' and added my user password.

Larry56 may still have a root password of 'root', which could be dangerous.

RE: installing 2010 rc1
Well, the 2010 RC 1 has been really one of the best or perhaps the best from tinyme in my arguable opinion. However, the only problem again that vests with the installation of it is the installation issues itself. Setting up a new user may work but I would like to know what and why that is the case because the new release claimed to have no such issues and if this is the case when installing, then your overall business may hinder!
