First view of new rc
Hello to all, new member with some comments/issues, in hopes some of this may help your developers. I downloaded the latest release of TinyMe and burned to cd this morning for testing. MD5 ok, booted the cd. I am using a 64bit Athlon x2 4200 with 3GB DDR2 ram. I haven't used Mandrake since it was called Mandrake, so I'm not that familiar with it, other than all those 'thisdrake' and 'thatdrake' toolnames.
LiveCD boots slow but that may just be inherent. Nice graphics, but I didn't get a look at what video driver it was using for my old Nvidia G-force 5500 card before the desktop became unresponsive. Here's what I did, and I'm not an expert linux whiz: Login as root, immediately tried to configure my DSL internet connection thru the Configure Computer tool. Choosing DHCP resulted in "failed to configure" and the desktop just quit doing anything. X didn't crash or anything, just none of the buttons would launch programs after networking failed. Browser, file manager , terminal, nothing would work. I managed to get 'init 2' typed into the run-command box and it closed out X, but then X woulnd't restart. Rebooted and tried again. This time I picked "manual network config" in the Networking wizard, and the result said "Congratulations, etc" Same issue afterwards though, browser , file manager, nothing would launch from any button. I did see some of the boot messages on the second boot-up of the live-cd, and caught sight briefly of at least 3 things in red, the first was HAL-DAEMON failed to start, but didn't see the other things. If anyone wants to see the boot messages or have me look at anything else in this, let me know and I'll try to boot it again and copy some of the stuff down. I also had the same experience with the last release of Acorn, in mid-March. Network NEVER configured, desktop dies, and I tossed the cd. It's a nice looking live-cd, would like to try it out awhile if it would work. Hope some of this helps. chuck |

You're getting this error because your network is changing your computer's name. Try hitting Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to exit the graphical system and trying logging in again. [/quote] Ok, thanks, I tried that, it does work. But networking still won't. Most of these live cd's I've tried picks up my network info without any intervention at all, some require some config, and some just will not pick up a lease at all (TinyCore/MCN Live, TinyMe). I did the manual configuration again and it showed success , but no net connection. Opened terminal and tried the "dhclient eth0" thing about 8 times in a row, timed out every time without obtaining lease info. I'm at the end of my skills for now with that problem. At lease the desktop doesn't go lifeless now! |

RE: First view of new rc
I seem to recall that Marvell chipsets have issues. Could you please try the latest Unity release and see if it works for you?
