TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
I have tried booting TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 on my Dell Pentium II Latitude D300XT and receive a blank screen instead of the usual login screen. Everything seems to boot well up until the login screen with no errors.
This is the same issue I saw with the installed Beta 1 OS when upgrading to the 2.6.31.9 kernel (from Unity Test repository) which occurred on three occasions. If kernel 2.6.31.9 was downgraded to 2.6.31.6, Beta 1 would show the login screen. Thus, I suspect the problem this time is in the kernel and maybe it is missing the needed video driver, perhaps. |

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
For a temp fix try the following:
hit enter login as root. password root type XFdrake (XF need to be in caps) select the proper video card and make sure settings are what your screen can handle Quit then type startx You should be all set. Hope this helps, Paul |

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
Hitting enter does nothing as the laptop seems to be locked up. Only a reboot changes this.

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
Your card seems to be misread.
To get a boot, press F3 at the grub and type the number Quote:3This will bring you to the verbose login screen (log in as root (password is root) There type (it's case sensitive) Quote:XFdrakeThere choose the xorg|vesa graphic card to get a display (you can experiment afterward with another driver). exit to save the changes and type Quote:slimto resume the boot process. |

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
I assume you were meaning to set the Boot Options at grub to "3". After adding a "3" in the Boot Options, the system freezes again with a black screen. This OS will not boot into Safe Boot either without freezing.

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
When I put "3" in the Boot Options I placed it before the "noscsi" option and this did not work. When I put the "3" after the "noscsi" option (needed for this laptop), I get the verbose screen.
Now I have changed the Latitude D300XT laptop to "NeoMagic MagicGraph" vs the original "128XD". I have also changed the resolution to "800 x 600" which the Technical Specifications say are max resolution. After typing slim, I get the frozen screen again. |

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
I read in another Dell Manual that the resolution on this TFT Screen is 1024 x 768 and changed to this resolution in XFdrake. There is still no response after saying OK to XFdrake and entering the "slim" command.
Is there a way to debug the booting process? If there is, this would save some time on quessing the problem. |

Did you type "startx" and hit enter after you finished with XFdrake?
