Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
Paul, I typed "startx" after configuring the video driver in XFdrake and the system froze.  I tried this last night and a few minutes ago with the same results.

In addition, I typed "slim" after configuring the video driver in XFdrake and the system froze also.

Did you actually try the xorg|vesa (you'll have to scroll down a few drivers in XFdrake to find it) driver at all?  It would enable you to access the graphical desktop which would make your subsequent tests a lot easier?  You are only mentioning the neomagic and 128XD so I'm not sure.

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
I have now tried Xorg - vesa and Xorg - neomagic both with "slim" and "startx" after the "XFdrake" command.

With the Xorg -vesa driver installed, the command "slim" returns a command prompt with no other action.

With the Xorg -vesa driver installed, the command "startx" returns a "Fatal server error: no screens found"

With the Xorg-neomagic driver installed, either "slim" or "startx" command returns a frozen OS.

I am not sure this is a video driver problem and wonder if the kernel used in  TinyMe 2010 LiveCD does not have the driver needed for one the hardware devices other than the monitor.

OK, from what I can find on the web your system uses a neomagic card.  It also seems that they can have graphic freezing
http://linux.die.net/man/4/neomagic

Can you try the fix on this page?
Add to xorg.conf (most likely device section)
Option "XaaNoScanlineImageWriteRect"
Option "XaaNoScanlineCPUToScreenColorExpandFill"

Beta2 is our first release with the new xorg (1.7 series) and is still work in progress.

Re: TinyMe 2010 Beta 2 LiveCD has no Login Screen
I added the Options to the device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf file under the Neomagic MagicGraph information similar to what the xorg.conf had for the Neomagic 128XD - Neomagic 128XD had the second Option already in the xorg.conf file.

I tried 3 conditions.

First, I tried the Neomagic MagicGraph with both Options and entered "slim" on the command line thereafter.  This locked the OS and I rebooted.

Second, I tried the Neomagic MagicGraph with both Options and entered "startx" on the command line thereafter.  This also locked the OS and I rebooted.

Last, I tried the Neomagic 128XD with both Option and entered "slim" on the command line thereafter.  This locked the OS.  [just a try, but no results were expected on this one.]
