Greetings from Seattle!
I'm trying out your new Beta via a USB stick, on a Toshiba NB205 netbook w/2GB
RAM. I'm a retired programmer with no Linux command line skills, looking for a small, fast Linux OS. I have tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix, seemed clunky, currently running Xubuntu, meets all my needs, but clearly not as small and fast as I would like. I've tried a few others including Puppy Linux, but they usually try to drag me to the command line, and I don't want to go if I can avoid it. My needs are simple, Firefox, Google toolbar, wi-fi (got that working easily, thanks!), ideally OpenOffice, easy printer setup (wireless printer), and the HP printer toolkit package. I realize this is a beta, and will be following the progress with interest. tried to run the update manager, and it asked for a root password, which I didn't know. The clock says it's 4:13AM, and I can't see where to change it to my time of 8:13PM (PST). Would greatly appreciate any guidance on these matters, and wish you success in your venture. Thanks!! |

Re: Greetings from Seattle!
Welcome Houtek,
As tinyme uses autologin by default, the password informations are not displayed on the login screen as is usual. The password is "root" for the root account. Once installed, you can change the root password in the control center > system > manage users and groups in the menu, select "options" and untick the "filter users" then edit "group" and change the password there. To change the locales / data & time. Once again open the control center > system > manage date & time or manage localisation of your system. Select the one depending on what you want. Have a look at the various applications in there, you'll find lots of useful stuff. |
