Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
2010 is not far away and I'm thinking the current development series will probably be released then rather than in 2009. Would anybody like to jump on board helping with this release?

Re: Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
Sure, although I'm mainly thinking of some of the work which needs to be done between ISO releases, like:
Artwork
Bugs
Other Stuff

Re: Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
Hello. I'm sort of a developer for the antix project. I could help out with:
1. IceWM if you go that route. 2. Scripting - I'm fairly familiar with gtkdialog and zenity. (All of my gtkdialog scripts are rewrites of yours.) 3. I know of a few nice, light-weight apps as we're always looking for these at antix as well. Some examples include goggles music manager, seamonkey web browser, geany for development, and searchmonkey search engine. 4. I'm not an artist, but I can tweak icewm themes to some extent. john |

Re: Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
Well, I've toyed with the idea of moving to IceWM, but I think we'll stick with LXDE/Openbox. However, I'm open to hearing good ways to tweak IceWM because I package that for Unity.
I'm fairly familiar with Geany (I package it as well) and it doesn't really fit with TinyMe. A developer-friendly distro has dropped way down on my priorities. There are other text editors which are much smaller: scite 2.6MB medit 3.2MB teagtk 4.3MB geany 5.5MB gedit 19.0MB (Those numbers are with dependencies, but before I strip out any files I may deem unnecessary.) SeaMonkey is huge. Also, 90% of TinyMe users won't use it as more than a browser. A static QT build of Opera makes more sense. Midori is even lighter and is pretty stable. The system Control Center requires WebKit, so Midori only adds a few KB on top of that. I've never head of Goggles, but lately I've been impressed by Pragha. I see Goggles uses the FOX toolkit instead of GTK, so I rather doubt it'll make it into TinyMe. SearchMonkey was in TinyMe 2008.0 and will probably reappear in TinyMe 2010. Re: Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
Interesting. I always thought that geany was lighter than scite. Looks like I've been schooled.
OK. How about this: Feh is a nice lightweight image viewer that can be used in conjunction with scrot to take and preview screenshots. I've written a decent screenshot app using these tools as well as gtkdialog and zenity. Also, feh can be used to browse wallpaper directories and set wallpaper. If feh isn't quite your bag, then you may like cwallpaper: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-E...9762.shtml both of which should be smaller than nitrogen. Or maybe you could consider letting pcmanfm manage the desktop. I'm still testing the livecd - I'm having some problems running it on my laptop, so I'll try it on my desktop. john |

Re: Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
Again, with CWallpaper, there's an issue of a different toolkit. CWallpaper is based on FLTK. Stuff based on a toolkit other than GTK probably isn't going to be added because it will pull the toolkit libraries in as well, meaning that overall you aren't saving space, you're using more of it.
Currently MTPaint can take screenshots as well as provide basic image editing capabilities. Please check the Release Announcement before reporting any issues! Please read the Usage Rules before posting! Check out the FAQ!

Re: Would you like to help with TinyMe 2010?
Ah. Sorry, I'm used to antix I guess. Good point about the differing toolkits: It's not something I've thought of before.
Mtpaint for screenshots - I forgot about that. I think I have a .desktop file for creating a menu link for it. Or more precisely I borrowed it from slitaz. I think I'll explore the livecd a bit more before I post here again. I'm embarrassing myself too much. john |
