Dynex PCMCIA card bcm43xx chipset help
I tried getting this card (Dynex DX-BNBC)to work about a year ago and was unsuccessful although I didn't really put much effort into it. I just ended up purchasing an old card on eBay that worked right out of the box. I really don't have that option atm though so I would really appreciate any help I could get on getting this to work.
As of now I have not tried anything, I am strickly using the wired port for network access. I have installed TinyME 2008.0 and then did a full update. Before I begin I wanted to come here and ask for any tips on installing before I actually tried anything. For instance, should I try and use the bcm43 firmware or should I use ndiswrapper? Any insight here would be greatly appreciated. Joble, if you see this I would love to hear from you. You come highly reccomended by KDulcimer and I've been keeping an eye out for you in #pclinuxos-support with no success. |

Re: Dynex PCMCIA card bcm43xx chipset help
I have been checking here, but I did not see this. WOW.
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist add blacklist bcm43xx blacklist ssb In PCC (wrench and screwdriver looking icon in the taskbar) ->network and internet->set up new interface->wireless point it to the .inf file when it asks. Your driver is in a .exe file? I've extracted those type driver files using wine before. There are other methods that can be tried. Post back if you have any more questions or issues. I'm here. Re: Dynex PCMCIA card bcm43xx chipset help
Absolutely no luck. It took me this long to get the drivers extracted from the Installshield executable. Wine couldn't do it so I ended up using another program with wine called universal extractor which ended up giving me 2 pertinent cab files that i needed to get into before I could get to the .sys and .inf files. So the first time I tried to configure the device it said something about not being able to find the ndiswrapper interface. I tried some other stuff too like deleting all the files in wireless.d rebooting and then trying again but nothgin worked. I even tried using the bcm43 firmware to no avail. SO like any noob would do I have reformatted and reinstalled so i am ready to try again. What do you think I should do next? One thing I noticed when I busted into the cab file was that there was 2 different folders which contained the .sys and .inf files. One under XP/2k, and one for Vista. I used the files form the xp/2k folder. I am going to go ahead and update this fresh install and then wait for your next piece of advice thanks again.

Re: Dynex PCMCIA card bcm43xx chipset help
The xp/2k files should be the correct ones. Point ndiswrapper to the .inf file (with the .sys file at the same location), and it should just work, if not, let me know and we'll dig deeper.

Re: Dynex PCMCIA card bcm43xx chipset help
I know it has been awhile but I just wanted to make an update to this thread. Last night I got bored and decided to start playign around with this again and I actually got it to work. I tried a few times through the GUI and got some kind of error every tiem when I tried to load the .inf file for ndiswrapper. I finally found my way to the sourceforge page for ndiswrapper and follow some manual instructions and noticed that the command line was telling me i was missing the .sys file associated with my .inf. I also noticed it was looking for a .sys file that had a different name. Long story short my .sys and .inf files had slightly different names. One was like "bmcl5l.xxx" and the other was "bcml564.xxx" and when I flip flopped the names low and behold the driver took. I setup a wireless connection through the control panel and it even works with my WPA secured Linksys WRT54G. Woot! Thanks agian to all who tried to help. Especially you Joble.
