Filesystem layout
Any chance Tinyme would use the Gobo linux filesystem in future versions?
You can read about it here: http://www.osnews.com/story/20207/The_Ch...e_Computer /Uggla |

Re: Filesystem layout
While there are things I really like about Gobo, I don't think we can implement that without breaking other goals, like a level of compatibility with Mandriva.
Please check the Release Announcement before reporting any issues! Please read the Usage Rules before posting! Check out the FAQ!

Re: Filesystem layout
I asked the Gobo guys about keeping Mandriva compability and got the following answer from Michael:
Quote:It depends on just what level of compatibility you want, but generally no if you want to be able to install Mandriva packages on it. The Red Hat-derived distributions have some different expectations about things that are ingrained fairly deeply and difficult to work your way out of. I suppose you could give it a go and see where you get, but I wouldn't expect too much success. You might be able to move it closer in the areas you cared about, depending on what those were. |

Re: Filesystem layout
Also got this answer from Mohjive:
Quote:I think the biggest issue is packaging and dependencies. If you can make a packager that installs the rpm in its own directory and update the rpm package database I can't see why it shouldn't work. I know there are GoboLInux users that has unpacked rpms and debs inside /Programs/Foo/x.y, symlinked it and then it worked. But for a whole system we can't really tell without trying. |
