Can't mount USB devices after big update
Whoops, I posted this on the PCLOS board first, then realized I should have brought it here. Anyway, here is what I wrote over there.
"I did the big update and now none of my USB devices work. They would not mount, no icon, nothing with PClos 2007 after the update. I had enough issues that I did a fresh install, USB devices fine before update, they go away afterwords. Tried Tiny ME install. did big update on the tiny me and updated the kernel to 2.6.26.8tex3(think that's the number). Now I can 'see' the drives, but I can't mount them. manual mounting isn't working either. most of the time I get an error box with no message at all. I did get one error box that said "org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable......" followed by an error box that says "Directory does not exist". I'm really confused now Please help" A bit of clarification. I started with PC Linux OS but I was getting frustrated with how bloated KDE was feeling on my system. I would use IceWM most of the time, but it was not quite what I wanted either. after the big update caused me to lose gnucash, made firefox unstable, and made evolution wonky, I started fresh with a TinyMe install. Loved the initial interface. as I added stuff, suddenly I had KDE again and was hating it. reinstalled and now for some reason I have gnome, but I can live with it for now. can't get back to the original GUI. Anyway, I'm now trying to fix one issue at a time. If I'm going to restore my files to my hard drive, I need to bring back USB support. Can anyone help? Please? Pretty Please? I'm begging here! have a good day all |

Re: Can't mount USB devices after big update
As far the PCManFM/drive mounting issue, I'm aware of it and looking into as I have time.
When you go to log in, you have the option to change the Session. Make sure you're logging into Openbox. Please check the Release Announcement before reporting any issues! Please read the Usage Rules before posting! Check out the FAQ!

Re: Can't mount USB devices after big update
The odd thing is that the only option under session is openbox. it changed into a gnome look when I installed a few gnome based packages.

Re: Can't mount USB devices after big update
My USB storage devices also will no longer automount, and I can't figure out where they are to hand mount them (ie. /dev/sda1, sda2, ??).
I posted my /var/log/messages, dmesg, lsusb output, etc., etc. all over on the PCLOS forum, but when they saw "TinyMe" all over that stuff (May 3 10:38:20 TinyMe kernel: usb 1-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 16 May 3 10:38:20 TinyMe kernel: usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice May 3 10:38:20 TinyMe kernel: scsi15 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices May 3 10:38:26 TinyMe kernel: Vendor: Maxtor Model: OneTouch III Rev: 0344 May 3 10:38:26 TinyMe kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 04) The kindly sent me packing.
