Perfect Linux for electronic engineer!
Hello there.
I want tell you a big thank you for your perfect Linux OS. I am using VMware with open-vmware-tools on it and is run very fast and stable ![]() I tried to install CRAX but is very complicated for me, because I just start to use Linux 3 weeks before. Of cause I want to try another distro too like Zenwalk, VectorLinux, AbsoluteLinux, Puppy, Fedora and Mint. But I think that TinyMe is very compact, fast and the most important very frendly with user interface. For me as a biginner until now is the number 1 choice distro. Any extra library and package I need I just use packages from Synaptic and thats it. Very few time I had configure, compile and installed some libs from internet. I use it for my electronics development. So thank you very much! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /> |

Re: Perfect Linux for electronic engineer!
So I have play these days with many Linux OS so next I will present you my opinion.
All the Linux OS I tried on Virtual mashine VMware v6. Fedora 9 Live CD: I have installed it, even for 1 CD it has so many thing which are not useful for each users. It is very heavy, slow and huge after installation, note so flexible for the bigginer, and not so simple to setup something. In some application you should press so many buttons to reach the proper menu. So not good for me. Absolute Linux is huge after installation, I don't like the interface and is little bit buggy, so actually I remove immediately. So even worse than Fedora 9 but little bit faster, so generally bad choice for me. Mint Linux huge after installation so many application and the interface not so nice like in TinyMe, is faster than Fedora 9 bad I don't like that user interface so I decide to remove it. Vector Linux Standard edition very buggy with network interface in virtual mashine the menu interface is for children so ugly. So I was happy to remove it immediately. So the last one Zenwalk it was very nice but, I cannot installed it from Live CD so I redownload the standard version and intalled from the scrach, formatting in DOS mode, so for the begginers it will be maybe difficult. I like the many library which it has pre installed for developer and for multimedia but finally the final size of harddisk was very huge comparing the TinyMe. The interface it was fast but I think that the OpenBox in TinyMe is more faster and beautiful pre set. Generally I think is very good competitor but it lose on very important point. It was the VMware Tools, I cannot installed it on it. So maybe it is good that is GNU/Linux but the VMware tools is imposible to install on it, so working normaly on it in VMware workstation is imposible without this VMwareTools on it. So actually I remove it. But I think for normal mashine it will be very good and fast. So the final winner is Tiny Me, I installed again, then installed the VMware Tools and thats it. So I look again on TinyMe and understand that is probably the best choice for VMware Workstation, is fast, small, easy to use and you can understand and find the most thing very easy. So now I will stack for sure with TinyMe!
